Hello, NYC!

And...I'm back in the Big Apple, ready to rumble for New York Fashion Week! I'm only here for a short trip, but will be making the most of it covering backstage beauty trends and talking to some of my fave designers this season. I will be hosting up-to-the-minute videos for typeF and Total Beauty, so get ready!

I literally just got in tonight, and am going on two (count 'em, two!) hours of sleep, but still have so much energy somehow. (Or maybe it's because my hotel window is facing directly on 9th Avenue and this is the city that never sleeps.) I also have an early call time in the morning, but wanted to quickly pop in and update y'all so you know I'm right in the midst of the amazingness.

There's certainly something about this city that rejuvenates me and reminds me every time how much magic there really is in your dreams if you seek it out. For now, I'm loving being back in the Big Apple and will soak up every second of my visit...I think it's just what the doctor ordered. ;)

Will report back soon--for now, I'll be immersed in the fashion, the fun, the friends, and, most importantly, the fabulousity of it all. :)

Jason Wu for Target: My Review

I know yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday for the rest of the world, but for me, I aptly declared it 'TargetWu Sunday' and made it my mission to snag some of the Jason Wu for Target designer collaboration goods for myself.

To be fair, his collection wasn't totally my style when I scoped out the line, but there were a few girly numbers that I thought would work with my wardrobe. All in all, it was a fierce fashion fight (we were out the door at 8AM and hit up five locations) to get my hands on the coveted collection; but my sister and I are persistent, stealth shoppers, and we came out triumphant. Plus, we placed a sizable online order the night before just to ensure we covered our bases.

Did any of you score some Wu? What did you think? The sizes seemed a little off to me, (some ran way too big, some ran a bit small), but nothing a great belt (Lord knows I have plenty of those!) and some hemming (these swingy dresses and skirts are always so long on me!) can't fix. Add some fabulous heels and I'm all set for spring!

Alexandra Moosally at the Soho House

To follow up on my recent post on jewelry designer Alexandra Moosally, I headed over (or rather, darted across the street) to the Soho House for a cocktail party and shopping event for the talented New Yorker. Her pieces were quite pretty in person, delicate and subdued, but save for a few pieces, hard to differentiate from too many other designers. Truth be told, the jewelry category is an overcrowded one, for sure. Price points (even at a friends and family rate) were unfortunately still a bit high, but it's always nice to admire, right?

My pick from the party? A lovely 14kt gold bangle with an open organic pave diamond-encrusted bauble. See party pics below:

Love Me Some Rachel Pally

I've blogged about designer Rachel Pally numerous times, but it's hard not to when a) I adore her and her dreamy clothes and b) we go way back. Case in point, I first became enamored with her fresh designs when she first launched several years ago and I was an editor at InStyle.com, keeping my pulse on new talent.

When I moved out to LA, I discreetly trekked downtown to her warehouse sale and nabbed some fab finds for myself on the cheap. The sale was a bit out of control, with clothes piling up everywhere and her parents actually bribed me (totally unaware that I was an editor) to stay late and help them clean up the sale in exchange for a free dress. Never too proud, I totally obliged and got to know the hard-working, super sweet Pally family firsthand. Fast forward several years later, and we've laughed about that rough sample sale, and I've supported the brand at countless events (far more glamorous than that first downtown warehouse sale!) Rachel is a doll and deserves every ounce of success.

This week I drove straight in from Vegas and went directly to her VIP press event, where I scored a few new favorite items to add to my wardrobe. Ultra-wearable, flattering and versatile, Rachel's pieces are always in heavy rotation in my closet, no matter the season. New Month, New Energy!

Hard to believe it's already February, but I eagerly embrace this month for a number of reasons. Fashion Week is just around the corner, and nothing thrills me more than running amuck in the Big Apple (full well knowing that I get to return home to sunny L.A. just as soon as the cold weather, public transport and chaotic craze starts to seep in), surround myself in fashion frenzy, see old friends, meet new ones and bask in the beauty that is the fabulous fashion industry.

Moreover, my favorite holiday of all time, Valentine's Day, reminds me that if the world were filled with flowers, pinks and reds, love letters, chocolates, warm and fuzzy feelings, and kind gestures everyday then the world, in fact, would be a much sweeter place to live in. I'll be celebrating a friend's wedding this month, as well, and you guys know how I love weddings. Not to mention that it's awards season, and I will be reporting from the Oscars red carpet this year (thank you, JCPenney!)

And finally, I'm itching to travel, somewhere exotic, somewhere far away and European, and most certainly, charming as all get out. Hoping to put something in the books soon. And might I add that on top of it all, I've been scrapping pieces of a novel together over the last several years, and I'm quite certain my cosmic energy is telling me (okay, screaming at me) to wrap it up already! And that's just scratching the surface of what the next few weeks hold, darlings. Here's to new creative energy, new inspiration and exciting new developments on all fronts! Love to you all.

CHANEL Exhibit at The Wynn Las Vegas

This weekend I had the privilege of touring the exclusive (private, not open to the public) Numeros Prives CHANEL exhibit at The Wynn Las Vegas. The first of its kind in the United States, the installation featured ten magical spaces paying tribute to the iconic fashion brand. As a dedicated CHANEL devotee (I did get that handbag from an earlier post, by the way), it was unbelievably special and thrilling to experience this. Best part of the tour? A CHANEL claw machine, where guests could try their hand at scoring some designer swag to take home. Fabulous!

New York-based lawyer-turned-jewelry designer Alexandra Moosally has not only delicate, feminine (not to mention subtly sparkly) jewelry, but also quirky cute trinkets like hearts, cherries, apples and many, many more--mostly in rose gold and pave diamonds (my two faves.) As a vegetarian, I'm a fan of the carrot necklace below.

Estee Lauder Luncheon

I'm pretty much always on the go, and this week I was delighted to slow down for a bit and attend a truly fabulous Estee Lauder luncheon at a gorgeous estate in Beverly Hills. Aerin Lauder and Carolyn Murphy (who, at 38, still earned herself a spot on last year’s Forbes “Top Paid Models” list) hosted the elegant affair, and I was seated next to the brand's Global President, Jane Hertzmark Hudis. I was introduced to the uber-luxurious new Re-Nutriv skin care set (ringing in at a mere $950 retail) and have been pampering my skin with its decadent benefits ever since!

It's certainly no secret that my bathroom counter/shower/cabinets/any ounce of storage in my apartment is positively bursting to the brim with beauty products, so goodness knows that the last thing I need in life are extra bottles of shampoo and conditioner to add to the rotation.

But when I recently sampled John Frieda Full Repair products, I snapped them up without any hesitation. While my (color-treated, heat-styled) locks are usually spoiled by fancy salon lines like Kerastase, Joico, Gloss Moderne, Aveda and more, this drugstore range changed my world completely. They left my hair silky smooth and manageable--a far cry from the results I often times get even when using pricey products. And even if you have fuss-free healthy hair, everyone could use a little extra TLC in the winter. Go on, try the line--they are well worth their mass retail price tag.

Spent my Sunday at Neiman Marcus and fell in love. The Chanel 'Chain Me' shopping tote is exactly what I need in my life. It's functional, roomy, classy and perfect for everyday. I can't stop thinking about it, and am seriously considering it as an early birthday present to myself. The collection is flying off shelves, so I better move fast. But seriously, what's not to love?

As you may have guessed I'm a bit of a sparkle-a-holic, so when it comes to shoes, it's no surprise that my glittery silver 'disco ball' peep-toe pumps are in heavy rotation. In fact, so much so that they are tragically shredding and falling apart, so it's about time I replaced them in 2012, yes? I've searched high and low (after all, I do have a sparkle birthday party coming up this weekend), and while these Miu Miu heels are pretty much perfection, their $970 price tag is not.

Instead, I've settled on these lovely Nine West versions ringing in at a mere $99. Five inches of heel, one inch of platform and plenty of glamorous fabulousity to last me countless nights out on the town.

I've never been a big fan of winter (aside from Christmas and my birthday), primarily because of the drab fashion, as I've always been more of a sun dress and sandals kind of girl. When it comes to eye makeup, I have a hard time straying from my usual routine of neutral shadows and black eyeliner (emphasis on the eyeliner!) As an editor, I'm constantly urging readers to experiment with bold colors or fun trends, but truth be told, I'm a scaredy cat myself. I spotted these magnificent liquid liners from Makeup Forever at Sephora last night, and picked up not one, but two! Black (per usual) and the shimmery navy blue. Bold! Exciting! Fresh! It's not every day that I have time to sit and reflect on all that I am appreciative of in my life--and goodness knows, I have a lot to count my blessings for! Amidst the fashion frenzy of my day to day, I am supported and strengthened by truly solid friends (old and new, who have seen me through everything) and amazing family (three sisters, one older brother, one younger brother, one stepbrother, a sister-in-law with a baby on the way, parents, cousins, aunts, uncles, you know who you are.) There's no way I'd be able to get through my harried life without them, and for that, I am most thankful.

I also know that I have been given incredible opportunities (both professionally and personally) and am amazed on a daily basis of the exciting new surprises that present themselves--usually unbeknownst to me. I joke that my life is best described as a wild roller coaster ride--and quite frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you also to all of my work contacts--near and far--the publicists, designers, reporters, editors, readers, photographers and more; the truly talented, talented, talented hard-working people that make the fashion and beauty world so invigorating and fascinating to work in. No, we're not solving world issues or saving lives, but in our own way, we are making the world a more beautiful, inspiring and empowering place to live in.

This Thanksgiving, I am working steadfastly, juggling all that I juggle, making time for family, fellowship (okay, and food...a lot of food)--and also earnestly looking towards the future to see what else is in store for me. (There's always something!)

In closing, a few (okay, more than a few) personal snapshots of the last few months--for all the love and laughter, friends and fun-- I cherish deeply.

I admit it: I had doubts when I heard the claims from Miracle Skin Transformer--even the name sounded far-fetched and too good to be true. This product supposedly hydrates, evens out skin tone, provides flawless coverage and has SPF all in simple, fuss-free lightweight tinted moisturizer?

I was so skeptical I actually neglected it on my bathroom counter for weeks, thinking there's no way it would be able to replace my stable batch of highly-edited foundation formulas I rotate in and out on a daily basis. Boy, was I wrong. This product really does work! I applied a small amount on my face this morning and my skin looks airbrushed, flawless and perfectly even. Not a hint of afternoon shine, and better yet, it also feels light (like I'm not wearing anything at all) and provides a great amount of everyday coverage. I'm amazed already. This just might be the best discovery of the season.

P.S. Dying to get my hands on the concealer next...will report back!

I've been up to my ears in holiday gift guides for work (yay! fun!), and quite naturally, have started to accumulate a fancy wish list of my own. I've been longing for some sparkly everyday jewelry (stud earrings and a dainty necklace, please!) and came across Dana Rebecca Designs's cult-favorite line last night at The Luxury Review held at LA's Petersen Automotive Museum. I immediately snapped up the famous Lauren Joy mini necklace in rose gold and absolutely love its dainty simplicity and stunning speck of sparkle. Sometimes, my life truly is beyond fabulous that I have to pinch myself. Case in point, just days ago, I attended a glitzy cocktail party in honor of designer shoe legend Christian Louboutin. He graced Los Angeles with his presence last week to debut a stunning new book (blush pink leather-wrapped and bursting with gorgeous imagery to the tune of $150) at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills. Well-heeled beauties including Lucy Liu, Rachel Zoe, Lea Michele, Dita von Teese, Monet Mazur and Rosie Huntington-Whitely turned out to toast the famed footwear genius and celebrate the luxury brand’s 20th anniversary.

Stealth as always, I nabbed a few minutes with the man of the hour for a quickie interview. Check out our cheeky chat below:

How does it feel to be celebrating 20 years of red-soled success and the launch of a beautiful new book for your brand?
It feels good. If I had known life would be anything like this 20 years ago, maybe things would be different, but I had no idea. I would have never guessed I would be where I am now.

Your brand is the definition of a luxury shoe empire and is also a household name now. How did you pave your path to this point?
When you do something you love, you have a passion for it. It comes naturally. Staying true to yourself and doing what you love keeps you going…everything else falls into place. I am quite lucky!

What keeps you inspired?
Life. Women…and my enthusiasm for both!

When is a woman sexiest?
In bed.

What is one pair of shoes every woman should own?
Something that looks invisible. A nude shoe that goes perfectly with the color of her skin—a high heel of course. Something that keeps her looking completely naked.

What’s next for you?
A lot! Traveling, I have to go to Brazil and then all over the world.

The brand carries a handful of cute styles (the black strappy mesh one below just might be my fave) all available in fun colors. Amazing Face

Recently there's been a shift on my cosmetics counter at home, worthy of discussion. I've scooted aside all of my pricey designer foundations (Giorgio Armani, Dior, LaMer) to make room for my latest obsession: TooFaced Amazing Face Foundation.

This foundation rings in at $36, which isn't cheap, per se, but it's also a heck of a lot more affordable than my other foundation favorites. The formula is incredible--radiant and very natural-looking (and might I add, even anti-aging!) yet full of coverage. It lasts all day (really!) and glides right on.
Truthfully, it really is amazing. Go on and try it for yourself.

Fall is officially here, which makes me quite sad (I'm still struggling to let go of cheerful floral prints and breezy sundresses), but with chillier weather, there's new reason to accessorize sturdier outfits. One of my favorite fall accessories (perhaps my only favorite fall accessory, come to think of it), are tights. They can transform a look in an instant, never go out of style, keep you warm (very necessary) and make a statement in one fell swoop.

My latest beauty obsession is from TooFaced, one of my fave makeup brands on this planet (and not just because they have the cutest, girliest packaging.) I recently discovered their Full Bloom Lip and Cheek Color in Sweet Pea (middle shade) and I'm incredibly impressed. It's light and super blendable, but packs major pigment which looks incredible on. The Sweet Pea color is perfect on my tan skin, and makes me look instantly revived and glam in a few quick swipes. No fuss, no muss, just fabulous, radiant color in no time at all.

I speak from experience when I say I am way over forcing bridesmaids to wear the same dress, hairstyle, jewelry and makeup look. This bride was smart to give her girls a subdued palette to achieve the vibe she was after, but gave them freedom to find cute dresses that complement their personal styles, body shapes and budgets. I'm a pretty loyal fan of Josie Maran's and her awesome organic products keep getting better and better. Not only do I love her Argan Oil Primer Mist, but her new R.E.M. (Rapid Eye Makeup) Pen has quickly become my new must-have. As a girl on the go, I'm always looking for sleek multi-tasking products that cut down on space in my beauty bag, and this innovative pen does just that. Exciting announcement! I just got word that I WON Lucky Brand's Fashion's Night Out “Denim Jean-ius” contest, judged by Tim Gunn, himself!

Lucky Brand had invited select bloggers to create innovative items out of Lucky’s Super Stretch or Super Soft jeans, with the chance to win an interview with Gunn and a year’s supply of Lucky Brand jeans. I crafted a cool denim circle scarf out of a pair of jeans and implemented every single item in the craft kit (per the contest rules) including patches, buttons, paint, colorful thread and more.

As you can probably guess, I have absolutely zero free time in my life, but I stayed up til the wee hours (literally, I have been averaging 3-4 hours of sleep a night) to crank this out because I love Tim Gunn and thought the contest was a super cool Project Runway-esque idea. Luckily (ha! no pun intended), it paid off!

You guys, I am SO sorry for not updating in awhile!! Totally unlike me--but if you could see the crazy, insane schedule I am on, you'd understand! I have been traveling nonstop for the last three weeks straight, getting very sleep and running myself ragged! But everything has been a whirlwind adventure and I am loving every minute of it. I'm still in New York for Fashion Week, busier than ever, shooting new fashion videos for typeF (more on that later!)

I have tons and tons of and tons of photos and videos to share, but I have to get some shut-eye tonight before my early call time tomorrow morning! I promise, when life calms down in a few days (and maybe after a much-needed massage), I will be updating The Fabulous File like crazy.

Super happy/thrilled/ecstatic to join the Fashionista.com family! I'll be contributing from the west coast (per usual), among my many other fabulous writing/editing/reporting/styling/creative directing/on-camera hosting fashion gigs! I've been a devout Fashionista.com reader for years and years, so it's wonderful to join the team of contributors.

Take a look at my recent post from last night's party--a couple of celebs (Nicole and Joel, for example, the adorbs Andrew Garfield from The Social Network, Sarah Silverman and more), taking in a screening of Meatballs at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and noshing on (what else?) meatball sandwiches and potato chips. Charlotte Ronson + Sephora = Genius

Charlotte Ronson (yes, sister of Sam) has been making headlines for some time, quietly, though, thanks to her successful indie girly fashion lines (in particular, her I Heart Ronson line does well at mass scale for JCPenney), and now the designer darling is expanding to beauty.

Last night I joined the ranks of her gal pals including Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Rashida Jones, Monet Mazur, Drea de Matteo and more to toast her latest expansion with Sephora at an intimate dinner at Il Sole in West Hollywood. The beauty collection features fabulous lip glosses, eyeshadow quads, bronzer, beachy hair spritz and more--and most are named after her famous friends. How's that for a lil name dropping that will surely boost sales?

As for the product line, I have to say, it's definitely got promise. Not only does Charlotte subtly bring Young Hollywood to the masses, but the line is pretty quality too. My 'Nicole' eye shadow quad, for example, is right on the money--pretty earthy browns that are great for everyday. Can't wait to see how this collection fares in the near future.

I'm admittedly an eyeliner addict, but I pretty much stick to the same formula (Stila, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown or MAC gel eyeliners, LORAC liquid pens) that have proven reliable no matter the circumstance.

NARS just launched a killer product called Larger then Life eyeliner, and I have to say I'm hooked. The Via Veneto (black) color is smooth, budge-proof and dramatic--just the way I like it.

Kardashian Kollection Party

Last night I headed out to The Colony in Hollywood to toast the new Kardashian Kollection for Sears and party it up with Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and the whole gang. Models rotated around a small stage in different Kardashian-inspired outfits ranging from sleek jumpsuits, sequined ensembles, leopard print blazers, plenty of body-conscious mini dresses and more. Not to be missed was the lingerie offerings, that proved to be both pretty, sexy and perfect for their customer. Maybe they should have just stuck to a lingerie collaboration, what with all of those famous sisterly curves?

Anyway, I digress, all in all, the Kardashians played it safe for the mass market. Although, if pressed, Forever 21 (or...wait, bebe debuted a nearly identical Kardashian collection at a higher price point not that long ago...) would also offer you the same sort of disposable club wear.
Truthfully, though, the singular standout item I saw was an oversized black lace handbag with top handles (a la Louis Vuitton's 'Speedy' silhouette) that I could totally get on board with. Classy, and might I add, discreet, too, so not a soul will know it's from Sears.

Admittedly, I'm not really a TOMS kind of a girl (I love my heels--no surprise there!) and wearing flats is something I have to force myself to do at least once a week. I haven't gotten on board with the whole TOMS fad, but I found two styles that I'd actually wear quite willingly. Feminine, sweet and neutral, the Petal Grosgrain and Natural Crochet styles would look super cute with a pair of shorts or even a casual dress.

Last night I attended a star-studded party in honor of jewelry line lia sophia. I hit five cool neighborhoods of L.A. and interviewed real girls with real (fierce! fabulous! fun!) style this summer. The series is fresh and innovative, and I had a BLAST creating it for stylish readers everywhere.
